The new committee members have been proactive and Mark has been hard at work submitting a grant application to the Regional Arts Fund on our behalf.

Below is a snapshot of what might be in store for us when the grant is successful. It promises to be a riot of music, dance and performance.

cheers, Jenny Rossiter, TFF President

Afro Dizzi Act are seriously good, crossing many musical borders to create something evocative and fresh.Afro Dizzi Act - go online to view image - With their well renowned sonic chemistry and distinctive grooves as a foundation, these ambient- world- jazz- dub- funksters form a sound that the group have coined 'World Beat'. It hasn’t been easy to categorise a band that draws from such a plethora of musical reference points, but Afro Dizzi Act as a band have never looked for a comfortable box to reside in. “ One of the best African/Australian fusion bands I have ever seen come out of Australia.”
Ben Walsh (The Bird, Circle of Rhythm).

core volunteers
There are still a few vacancies within the core volunteer ranks. If you think you can help with one or more of these please email or ring Mark 0448 017 877 for a chat. Most of these positions don't need you to attend a meeting until near the Festival.

bullet Bar Managers - Both general Festival supervisor and specific bar managers needed. We will fund Responsible Service of Alcohol certificates for anyone interested in taking up these positions.

bullet Treasury - This competent team of workers need someone to be the general overseer of the treasury for the weekend. Although an accounting background is not necessary a good head for figures is essential.

bullet Venue Managers - On the weekend we need people to be the general supervisor for specific venues eg the community hall, the pavilion. It is mainly a trouble shooting position just to keep an eye on things and make sure its all running smoothly. There will be other volunteers to do the work it is more of a coordinating role.

bullet Campsite Overseer - This person will ideally camp at the grounds but is not expected to be there all the time. Just to check in on a regular basis to again trouble shoot and liaise with SES, cleaning and security crews.

bullet Youth Stage Coordinator - This position can be small or large depending on how far you want to take the scope of it. Basically it is liaisoning with schools and the Festival Director to come up with a viable Youth Program for the weekend. There is heaps you could do but not all of it is vital.

bullet Utilities - Another overseeing role this time to do with the toilet facilities. There will be volunteers and perhaps paid cleaners but someone has to make sure it has been done and solve any emergencies which arise.

bullet Program Booklet - The format is set we just need someone with good typing skills to put this year's info, pics and ads in and make sure it is ready for the printer. Good working knowledge of computer publishing would be helpful.

Soooo.... if you think you can help or know of someone who would we could certainly do with a hand. Thanks

International Year of the Frog - go online to view image - frog hello
With 2008 deemed the "International Year of the Frog" this looks to be a possible theme for the children's festival.

With involvement from local environmental groups and government departments this vibrant topic will give plenty of scope for fun and frogolity.
apply now for a volunteer position

Well, the website volunteer application form is up and going. It's a bit of a PB (stands for personal best) for the volunteer organizing committee - we've got it running earlier than last year, and yeah....it's better than last year. I've given it a go and it works. It's probably not perfect, but that's where you come in. Apply on-line, and at the same time please give us some great comments to improve it!! Remember to fill in all relevant fields. Last year we frequently had to phone up an on-line applicant to get important information - like their name and their job selection (believe it!!).

We had our first Festival organizing meeting last Sunday. Early as it is, the excitement started to build as we revived memories of last year's gigs and considered some potential ones for this year. Join up, join us, apply on-line!!

he's back...
Nick Charles - go online to view image - Did you manage to catch Nick Charles at last year's Yungaburra Folk Festival?

He was that sublime guitarist who used acoustic and slide steel guitar to explore an area where the roots of blues, jazz, folk and country collide. With technique to burn and fingers literally flying across the frets his playing is stuffed full of surprises and instrumental undercurrents. He manages to create the impression of a small lyrical string combo at play.

Well guess what? You can see him again. The TFF is proud to announce that he will be playing at the Yungaburra Chapel on
June 1. Stop reading right now and mark it on your calendar as something not to be missed. Details of performance time, ticket prices and member discounts will be publicised closer to the date so keep an eye out. Listen to samples of some of his tracks and find more info at www.charlesguitar.com/
